T.S. Indefatigable
Old Boys Association: UPDATE JULY 2006
A month on from this years IOBA Reunion, I thought you should be informed of the following forthcoming events and changes.
We have a new Chairman; BILL O’LEARY 74/76 - Colonel WJ O’Leary TD.
Bill's background: In a civilian capacity, Bill is the Business Development Manager for an international automotive supplier, specialising in plastics. In his second career he is a Colonel in the Territorial Army, currently holding the post of Colonel Territorial Army Recruiting. Prior to taking up this post, he was the TA Colonel in Land Command, which commands the JSMTC Indefatigable. Through this link, and with a little ‘command pressure’ he has been able to move a little way back towards the good old days, of holding AGM events within the school grounds. With a bit of sensitivity and by taking things one step at a time, maybe in the not too distant future we will be able to have our dinner there as well? Bill is currently the Chairman of both Territorial Army Golf, and Territorial Army Shooting, and also Chairman of the Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers Golf Association. Additionally, sits on the Oxfordshire Reserve Forces and Cadets Association as a Military Member and involved heavily with the cadet youth movements.
The INDEFATIGABLE AWARD 2006.
As an outcome from this years AGM, we will be making an annual donation to the Sea Cadet Corps (£700 to date). This year £600 will be forwarded direct from IOBA funds, along with another £100 very generously (privately) given. It's hoped to aim between £500 - £1000 year on year to the Sea Cadet Unit deemed by the Sea Cadet Corps HQ, to have made the most significant improvement over the previous 12 months (NATIONALLY) . Additionally, we will award one of our cups 'The Navy League Challenge Swimming Trophy' to the winning unit, but this is to be still held centrally at JSMTC (The Old School), and can be used by the winning unit for such events that warrant it, such as dinner nights.
AROUND THE WORLD CLIPPER RACE 05-06.
For those of you that have been following the Race; The Clipper Race returns to Liverpool (along with the IOBA PENNANT) on 29th July, after 35,000 miles, 300 days of intense competition, 10 cities, one winner. Why not join the crowds on Liverpool's World Heritage waterfront and competitors for the finish of one of the world's most thrilling maritime events. Someone please take photos for me, as I'm unable to be there this time - family commitments.
29/07/2006: Begins 12:00.
YOU ARE CORDIALLY INVITED TO; MERCHANT NAVY DAY - LIVERPOOL, SUNDAY 3rd SEPTEMBER.
Annual Merchant Navy Memorial service held at the Liverpool parish church ‘Our Lady and St Nicholas’. In commemoration of 30,000 British Merchant Sailors who have sacrificed their lives, we would like to invite you, to be with us at this event. There will be a parade of Merchant Navy Standards and Standards of other Associations (IOBA), followed by serving and retired Merchant Seafarers with other Organisations. This Annual service is held on the Sunday nearest to Merchant Navy Day, 3rd September, in memory of Merchant Seafarers who died in World Wars I and II and in conflicts up to the present day.
03/06/2006 - Liverpool. Please email me for more info / accommodation and why not come along to meet our NEW Chairman!
YOU ARE CORDIALLY INVITED TO; The Indefatigable Old Boys Annual Reunion & Dinner 9th JUNE 2007.
At The Carreg Bran Hotel, Llanfairpwl, Anglesey. (Next to the old school) Tel: 01248 714224
Numbers attending this year (03/06/06), were slightly down on last year, and some of this was as a direct result of the poor condition of the rooms, at the Carreg Bran Hotel and poor quality of the food supplied in previous years. Members have actually written to us, to say that they would no longer support Reunion Day until something was done on the accommodation front. BUT, what a change this year! I can say, with NEW management at the Carreg Bran , it has started to show great improvements and I for one can’t wait to see the raised standards next year.
That's it for this UPDATE. Should you wish to contact any of us, please do so and finally please remember to write down somewhere - Saturday 9th June 2007.
